Cursor chat lets you share quick thoughts with people on your board. Your message appears next to your cursor in real time, so you can ask a question, react to an idea, or get a teammate's attention without leaving the board or adding temporary content.
Open cursor chat
To send a cursor chat message, you need edit access to the board. Make sure nothing is selected and you're not editing text. Then use any of the following methods:
- Start typing on the canvas. Cursor chat opens with what you typed.
- Press / or ,. Cursor chat opens empty.
- Right-click an empty area of the canvas and select Start cursor chat.
- Use the Command palette. Press Ctrl + K (Windows) or Cmd + K (Mac), then type "cursor chat" followed by your message.
Send a message
- Open cursor chat. A chat bubble appears next to your cursor.
- Type your message. Others see it as you type. There's no send button.
- To write another message, press Enter. Your current message clears and the chat stays open.
- To close cursor chat, press Esc. Your message disappears for everyone.
Cursor chat also closes on its own some time after you stop typing. Others will continue to see your message until it disappears.
Cursor chat is designed for short, quick messages, so each message is a single line.
What others see
Collaborators see your message in a bubble next to your cursor, in your cursor color, with your name above it. If your cursor is off-screen, the bubble appears at the edge of their screen. Select it to jump to your cursor.
If you're in private mode, others see your message without your name.
Reactions in cursor chat
Some words in your message trigger an emoji animation on everyone's screen.

Who can use cursor chat
Only board editors can send cursor chat messages. Everyone on the board can see them. Commenters, viewers, and guests can't send messages. On mobile and tablet, you can see messages from others but can't send them. You also can't send messages on view-only boards.
Privacy
Cursor chat messages aren't saved. They don't appear in the board, version history, or exports.
