Replace a label

Replacing a label is a safe way to change the conditions of a label that's already used in a classification. Instead of editing the label directly, you create a new version of it with the conditions you want, preview the impact of the change, and then swap it in for the old version. This lets you see exactly what content would be reclassified before you commit to the change.

When to replace a label instead of editing it

• If you're changing a label's name, short name, description, or category, you can edit the label directly. These fields don't affect scanning or classification, so there's no risk of reclassifying boards.
• If you're changing a label's conditions (keywords, infotypes, or matched components) and the label is currently used in a classification, Miro warns you that the change may cause boards to be reclassified. In this case, we recommend replacing the label instead of editing it.

Step 1: Create a new label with the updated conditions

1. Click your profile avatar, and then click Admin console.
2. On the left sidebar, click Enterprise Guard, and then click Data discovery.
3. Select + Create label.
4. Fill in the label details (Label name, Short name, Description, Category), then add the conditions you want going forward using + Add keywords, + Add info types, and/or + Add matched components. For more information, see Create labels and keywords for custom business-sensitive information.
5. Give the new label a name that makes it easy to identify as the replacement. For example, add "v2" or the date to the name.

Step 2: Replace the label in classification

1. Go to Classification → Configuration.
2. Open the Define auto-classification step.
3. Add the new label to the classification, and remove (untick) the label you're replacing.
4. Review the impact shown on the last step. This shows you what content will be reclassified as a result of the change.
   • If the impact looks correct, apply the change.
   • If it doesn't look right, go back and adjust the conditions on the new label, then repeat this step.

Step 3: Remove the previous version of the label

✏️ A label must be removed from all classifications before it can be deleted or deactivated. Step 2 above already did this for the previous version of the label, so you're ready to continue below.

1. Click your profile avatar, and then click Admin console.
2. On the left sidebar, click Enterprise Guard, and then click Data discovery.
3. On the Data discovery page, on the Sensitive content detection tab, click the vertical three dots on the row of the previous version of the label, and then click Delete label. If you'd rather keep it for reference, click Deactivate board scanning instead.
