Who can do it: Board editors (viewers can use widgets, but can't create or edit them)
Which plans: Starter, Business (beta, rolling out gradually)
Which platforms: Browser
Custom Widgets let you build interactive, multiplayer widgets on your board by describing what you need. Turn a brainstorm into a 2x2, a table into a live burndown chart, or a retro into a voting tracker, without writing code or installing an app.
The Custom Widgets menu enables you add, edit, or create your own widget.
A custom widget lives on the board like any other object. Everyone with access uses it together in real time, and you can keep editing it after you create it.
NOTE Custom Widgets is in beta and is rolling out gradually. Not everyone on your board may see the widgets you create. For details, see Who can see custom widgets.
What you can build
- Visualize data: Charts, burndowns, roadmap views, and Kanban-style boards built from a Miro table. [VERIFY: live at beta]
- Decide and align: 2x2 matrices, voting, prioritization, and decision trackers.
- Run sessions: Icebreakers, retros, and workshop activities.
- Organize work: RACI charts, approval trackers, and checklists.
Create a custom widget
- On the board, in the Creation bar, click Formats and flows, then select Widget Creator.
- Choose a pre-built widget to add or edit, or click Create widget.
- In the Sidekicks panel, describe the widget you want in a prompt.
The widget is generated on the board. Keep prompting to refine it.
Prompt Sidekick to customize your widget.
TIP: Start with the outcome and who uses it, for example, "A dot-voting widget where each person gets five votes and the top three options are highlighted." If a large request doesn't finish, split it into smaller steps.
More information: See Sidekicks overview and Tables.
Build from your board content
Use content that's already on the board as the starting point for a widget, so you don't have to copy and paste it into the chat.
- In the Creation bar, click Formats and flows, then select Widget Creator.
- Select the board content you want to use, like stickies, Docs, frames, and tables.
- In the Sidekicks panel, describe what you want to build from your selected content.
NOTE: Widgets built from a table stay in sync with it. When the table changes, the widget updates automatically. For example, a chart redraws when a status changes. For content other than tables, the widget uses what was on the board when you built it as a starting point.
Edit a widget
- Click the widget on the canvas.
- In the context menu above the widget, click the pencil icon (Edit). The Sidekicks panel opens.
- Describe the change you want in a prompt.
Share and reuse
Everyone on the board sees and uses the same widget in real time. To reuse a widget, copy it and paste it onto any other board. [VERIFY: what's kept on paste, for example the table link.]
Who can see custom widgets
During the beta, only users who have Custom Widgets enabled can see them. Collaborators who don't have access, for example people on a Free plan, don't see custom widgets on the board at all. Keep this in mind when you share a board with people outside your team.
Viewers on your board who do have access can use a widget, for example vote or click through it, but they can't create or edit widgets.
AI credits
Creating and editing custom widgets doesn't use AI credits during the beta. We'll share pricing details before general availability.
Limitations
- Very large or complex widgets can take longer to generate and may not finish in one go. Try breaking the request into smaller steps.
- Custom Widgets isn't available on Free or Enterprise plans during this phase of the beta.
- Drag and drop works inside a widget, but you can't drag objects between the board and a widget.
- Widgets can't connect to external tools such as Jira or Slack.
- Some parts of the interface may appear in English only.
