What is two-factor authentication (2FA)
2FA is an extra layer of protection used to ensure the security of online profiles beyond just a username and password. With 2FA, every time you log in to Miro with an email and password you go through an extra identity proofing layer.
💡 If you're a Company Admin, learn how to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your organization.
How to register for 2FA
Users set up 2FA for their profile using their mobile device when registering for Miro for the first time (new users) or upon their next login when an organization that they belong to requires it for non-SSO users (existing users).
-
After creating your Miro profile with your email and password, you will be prompted to enable 2FA with your TOTP application.
Download a TOTP (time-based one-time password) application. The TOTP application automatically generates an authentication code that changes after a certain period of time.
-
Using your TOTP application, scan the QR code and input the 6-digit code you see in your application to verify it.
- Record and save the recovery code. You can use this later to reset 2FA if you're unable to verify your 6-digit code for any reason (i.e. lost device).

How to use 2FA
Each time you log in, you'll be prompted to enter your 2FA 6-digit code from your TOTP application.
You have 3 attempts before you will be prompted to restart the login process.
How to reset 2FA
Reset 2FA using a recovery code
- If you're having problems accessing your authenticator app, have lost your device, or need to reset your 2FA for any reason, click Reset two-factor authentication.
- Use the recovery code that you saved from your initial 2FA setup process. You'll be prompted to go through the setup process again to reset your authenticator app.
