AI credits let you use Miro AI features, like generating images, Docs, diagrams, and Slides, and working with Sidekicks. Each AI action uses credits from your team’s monthly balance.
What are AI credits?
An AI credit is the unit Miro uses to measure AI usage. Each AI action consumes credits, and different actions cost different amounts.
Miro allocates a set number of AI credits to your account each month, and the balance depends on your plan. Credits are pooled and shared across your team. Everyone draws from one balance. They refresh monthly and don’t roll over. Guests and Visitors can’t run AI actions and don’t consume credits.
More information: See AI credits per plan.
TIP: You can purchase additional AI credits. See Purchase additional AI credits.
AI credits per plan
The table below shows the AI credits included with each plan, and when they refresh.
| Plan | AI credits included | Credits refresh |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 10 credits/month | First day of each calendar month |
| Starter | 25 credits/license/month | Monthly, on your plan renewal date |
| Business | 50 credits/license/month | Monthly, on your plan renewal date |
| Enterprise | Varies per license tier. See Enterprise AI credits. | First day of each calendar month |
| Education | 100 credits/month | First day of each calendar month |
For Starter and Business, the renewal-date reset applies even on annual plans. For example, a March 3 renewal resets your balance on the 3rd of each month. Unused credits don’t roll over.
Your allocation is calculated per seat and shared across your team.
There are two kinds of credits:
- Included credits come with your plan, assigned per seat — so they scale with your team size. Miro adjusts them on your next billing date when you add or remove users.
- Additional credits you purchase are organization-wide bundles, and aren’t affected by seat changes.
Enterprise AI credits
On Enterprise, the credits allocated per license each month vary by license tier.
More information: See Miro AI credits for Enterprise plans.
Check your AI credit balance
On a paid subscription, Billing admins and Company admins can check your organization’s balance anytime. It isn’t shown on Free plans.
- Starter & Business: go to Admin Console > Billing. The AI credits panel shows your monthly allowance, any additional credits purchased, your renewal date, and a used-credits bar.
- Enterprise: open the Admin Analytics page in Admin Console to explore AI credit usage.
Purchase additional AI credits
When your team uses all its credits for the month, AI actions pause until they refresh. Admins can buy more credits or upgrade, and members can request more — which notifies admins by email.
Starter and Business can buy additional AI credits in bundles (for example, 100 or 200 credits), added to your monthly allowance and shared across your organization.
Enterprise customers should contact Sales to get additional credits.
Who can buy
- Billing admins and Company admins only.
- Starter and Business plans. Free and Education must upgrade first; you can’t buy during a Business plan trial.
How to buy
Go to Admin Console > Billing and select Add more credits.
You can also add credits from the dialog shown when your team runs out.
How billing works
- Additional credits attach to your subscription at the organization level, and follow your plan’s billing period, currency, invoice, and renewal.
- Added mid-cycle, you’re charged a prorated amount immediately — credits are available right away.
- You can cancel anytime; credits stay until the end of the billing period, then your limit returns to your plan’s allowance.
- They’re removed if your plan is cancelled or downgraded to Free/Education.
- Like included credits, they reset monthly and don’t roll over.
How AI credit consumption works
Each AI action consumes a set number of credits. For example, Prototypes uses 5 credits per generated screen, and an image uses 3.
When credits are consumed
Credits are consumed when Miro AI generates a result — not when you apply or keep it on the board. Each regeneration or iteration consumes credits again, and undoing or discarding a result does not refund credits.
Consumption by feature
| AI output by feature | Credits consumed |
|---|---|
| AI search | 0 credits |
| Catch-up | 1 credits |
| Diagrams | 5 credits |
| Doc | 2 credits |
| Image | 3 credits |
| MCP | 5 credits per call |
| Prototypes | 5 credits per screen |
| Remove background | 1 credits |
| Sidekicks | 2 credits |
| Slides | 5 per slide |
| Sticky note | 1 credits |
| Tables | 5 credits |
| Text | 1 credits |
Most actions have a fixed cost. Some, like Sidekicks and other prompt-based flows, vary with the complexity of your request, the context you provide, and the model used.
Example AI credit usage
Here’s what you could do with 100 credits:
| Uses | AI action |
|---|---|
| 50x | Summarize a complex document (Doc) |
| 20x | Map out a process or system architecture (Diagram) |
| 20x | Generate a prototype screen (Prototypes) |
| 20x | Summarize action items in a table (Tables) |
| 20x | Build a presentation slide (Slides) |
- Generate a prototype for a UX flow: 6 onboarding screens = 5 credits × 6 = 30 credits.
- Create and iterate a Slide presentation: a 10-slide deck (5 × 10 = 50), plus rewriting one slide (+5) and adding another (+5) = 60 credits.
Tips to optimize your usage
- Write detailed, specific prompts to get the result you want in fewer iterations.
- Check the cost table before bulk actions — Slides and Prototypes scale per item.
- Give just enough context; extra context can raise the cost of variable actions.
- Admins: monitor your balance and top up before a big workshop or launch
