We’ve expanded retention policies to give admins more flexibility in how long boards are preserved before permanent deletion. When you configure a retention policy, you can now decide which event the retention period is based on. In addition to choosing the number of months or years, you can now set retention since:
- Last access
- Last modified
- Created at
This applies per selected scope (for example, specific teams or groups), so you can align retention with how different parts of your organization actually use Miro.
Why it matters
Compliance and governance requirements vary across organizations, and sometimes even between departments. By letting you choose whether retention is calculated from last access, last modification, or creation date, you can:
- Align more closely with internal and external data retention policies.
- Reduce the risk of deleting content that’s still actively used.
- Clean up truly inactive content while preserving critical historical records.
