Screen readers
A Miro board is structured as follows:
- Toolbars
- Skip to first object on the board button
- Board content overview/table of contentsÂ
- Board content
Toolbars
There are five toolbars on a Miro board:
- Board menu and settings
- Collaboration toolbar
- Creation toolbar
- Board overview
- Zoom controls and navigation toolbar

How to use Toolbars
- To navigate through toolbars press Tab.
- To navigate within a toolbar, use the Arrow keys.
- To activate an item, press Enter.
Skip to first object on the board
Activating the Skip to first object on the board button will move focus to the first object on the board.
How to use 'Skip to first object on the board'
- To move focus to the first object on the Miro board, press Enter.
- Press Escape to move back to the toolbars.
Explore board content
Explore board content provides an overview of the board structure, like a Table of Contents, that can be navigated through and used to move directly to board objects.Â
How to use 'Explore board content'
- To activate the board overview, press the Enter key on the Explore board content button.
- Use your screen reader navigation to move through the overview, for example:
- JAWS:
- Use Arrow keys to move through all objects.Â
- Press H to navigate through all container objects, such as frames.
- Press F to navigate through all editable board objects, such as sticky notes.
- JAWS:
- To move focus to a board object, press Enter - this will move focus to the object on the Miro board.Â
- Press Enter again to edit the object.
- Press Escape to move focus back to the board overview.Â
Voice control
Voice control for macOS
With Voice control enabled, say "Press Explore board content". This will activate the Miro board for use with Voice control. Almost all functionality will then be usable with Voice Control.Â
For example, to add a sticky note with the text “Hello World”:
- Press Sticky note
- Press Place light yellow sticky note
- Press Enter key
- “Hello World”
- Press Escape key
Voice Access for Microsoft Windows
With Voice Access enabled, say “Show numbers”, then say "Click" and then the number showing in the center of the screen. This will then activate the Miro board for use with Voice Access.
To access board objects, say “Show numbers” and then say “Click” followed by the number associated with the board object you want to focus on.
