Flexible Licensing Program (FLP) enables unlimited Free and Free Restricted licenses available to all newcomers. Learn about the difference between Free and Free Restricted and the advanced license management options that you get as soon as Flexible Licensing Program is activated.
Available for: Enterprise plan
Set up by: Company Admins
Default license: Free vs. Free Restricted
Enterprise customers with active FLP can choose the default license that their company users will get when joining the subscription: Free or Free Restricted. Please approach your Account Executive to set the default license.
Free license is automatically converted to Full as soon as
- a Free member activates a paid feature (creates a board or starts editing a board within the plan) - in this case, the license will be converted upon the user’s action
- another member invites them to edit a board within the plan or adds them as a project editor - in this case, the license will be converted upon the invitation
Free Restricted license on active FLP subscriptions allows users to view and comment on boards in the teams they participate in and request edit access from Company Admins.
✏️ Company admins can configure request management settings.
Free Restricted users can request the license upgrade
What license will newcomers get?
The newcomers who are invited to the Enterprise plan by its members or get in it via automated ways such as Just In time provisioning, Domain control, or SCIM will get the default subscription license upon joining the plan.
Company Admins, however, have an option to select a license for their invitees.
- Select Free Restricted license to invite the user without editing rights
- Select Free and the invitee will be assigned a Full license as soon as they start editing or creating new boards
Company admins can grant Free or Free Restricted license to their invitee
✏️ If a user already has a license in your subscription, Company Admins can change it upon inviting the user as a member. Learn more.
✏️ If you have JIT/Domain control auto-capture enabled on your plan, non-registered emails with corporate domains who have been invited as free guests to boards within the plan will get provisioned with the Free license when signing up with Miro, even if your default license is Free Restricted.
License management
As a Company Admin, you can easily grant full access to Free Restricted users in Company settings > Active users or in Team settings > Active users. Choose either Change to Full member or Revoke Restricted.
Changing a Free Restricted user to Full member
You can also downgrade Full users to Free Restricted. Free license can only be assigned to newly added members, hence existing Full members can’t be downgraded to Free.
Company admins on FLP subscriptions can downgrade a user to Free Restricted at any time
Bulk downgrade or upgrade several users' licenses: mark particular users or apply filters and select up to 50 users on the list and choose an option under Bulk actions.
The option to change to Free Restricted in bulk actions
If FLP is enabled for your subscription, you can invite as many Full members to your plan as you wish and downgrade inactive users to Free Restricted at any time. FLP helps you decide how many additional licenses you may need for your organization to true-up your contract accordingly.
Once a user is downgraded to Free Restricted, their access to boards will be limited to view and comment only. They will still be able to change sharing settings of their boards.
