Content Explorer capabilities are controlled through admin privileges. These privileges can be granted through predefined admin roles or through custom admin roles configured with the required privileges. Four predefined admin roles include Content Explorer privileges:
- Content Admin: Manages boards. Can view the Available and Trash views, move boards to trash, restore or permanently delete trashed boards, and change a board's sharing settings and permissions.
- Sensitive Content Admin: Oversees sensitive content. Can view the Available and Data discovery views, review business-sensitive and privacy-related matches, and hide matches that were detected incorrectly.
- Data Governance Admin: Oversees retention and disposition. Can view the Available and Content lifecycle views, including each board's lifecycle state and the policies that apply to it.
- eDiscovery Admin: Supports legal and compliance workflows. Can view the Available view, including board metadata, owner, and team information.
- Content Explorer capabilities can be granted through predefined admin roles or through custom admin roles configured with the required privileges.
- Your admin role determines which views and actions are available to you in Content Explorer. Your permissions to change these settings may also be affected by team and organization settings, as well as board permissions.
- You need at least one of the admin roles below to access Content Explorer. To request an admin role, contact your Company Admin.
- The Company Admin, User Admin, and Security Admin roles don't include Content Explorer access on their own.
- An admin can hold more than one admin role at once. For example, moving, restoring, or permanently deleting a board from the Content lifecycle view requires both Data Governance Admin (for view access) and Content Admin (for the action itself).

Custom admin roles for Content Explorer
Custom admin roles allow Company Admins to grant access to individual Content Explorer capabilities without assigning broader administrative roles. This enables organizations to tailor access based on internal governance, security, or compliance responsibilities.
A custom admin role may have access to a different set of views, columns, filters, and actions than the predefined roles described above. For more information, see Custom admin roles and Working with custom admin roles.
