Setting up access rights
You can share a Miro board:
- with specific users via email
- with space membersÂ
- with the whole team or companyÂ
- publicly with anyone who has the board link
Whenever you share a board, you can specify access rights for your invitees by choosing Can edit, Can comment, or Can view.Â
- Hover over the board on your dashboard.
- Click the three dots in the top right corner.
- Click Share.
- Type the email address of the user you want to invite or choose another option on the Share window (e.g., Anyone at the team, Anyone with the link, etc.).
- The default access level is Can edit. Click Can edit to change the access level to Can comment or Can view.Â

Board access rights
Owners, co-owners, editors, commenters, and viewers have different access rights on the board.
Each board has a board owner. There can only be one board owner per board. The board owner can:
- move the board between teams
- download board backups (on paid plans)
- add co-owners (Business Plan and Enterprise Plan)
- set board password (on paid plans)
- hide frames, use protected lock (on paid plans)
- configure board content settings (on paid plans)
- configure collaboration tools settings
- configure who can share the board
- transfer board ownership to another collaborator
- delete the board
Relevant for: Business Plan, Enterprise Plan
On Business and Enterprise plans, users can also add board co-owners. Board co-owners can:Â
- manage board content settings and collaboration tool settings
- hide and reveal frames, add protected lock
- add board password
- download a board backup
- add other co-owners
- change the board cover image and rename the board
- share the board

Editors can make changes to board content and delete or upload new files. Editors can use various board tools and settings depending on whether they’re a visitor, guest, or member.Â
Learn more about the difference between visitors, guests, and members.
Editors can copy the board content if this is allowed in the board content settings.Sharing with editor rights
When an editor is invited to a board as a member of the team (they have a paid seat/license), they can access and change the sharing settings.
Board owners and co-owners on paid plans can restrict this option for board editors.Commenters can view the board and leave comments on it. Registered Miro users who are invited to a board as a commenter can join voting sessions and see the running timer. Commenters can copy the board content if this is allowed in the board content settings.
Commenters can’t edit the board and share it.

How to request access to a board
If you follow a board link and see this message, it means the board isn’t shared with you yet.
Requesting access to the board
To view, comment, or edit a board, click Request Access. This will send an email message to the board owner. They will be able to give you access and define your access rights.
If you only have viewing or commenting rights, you can request editing access by clicking the Comment only button in the top right corner and selecting Request editor rights. Please note that this feature is not supported on the Education plan.
💡 If you can’t access a board even though you’ve been granted access or you created the board, visit this guide: I can’t access or edit a Miro board.
