In some cases you may want to invite external users to your board without making them full members of your team - like if you’re working on a project with a consultant, client or colleague.
All users have the option to share boards with Visitors using a public board link. Paid plan users also have the option to share boards with Guests. The difference between Visitors and Guests is the amount of security you have over a board and the level of access you can provide to individual users.
Our recommendation is to invite:
- Visitors when you're working on one-time collaboration
- Guests when you're occasionally collaborating with clients or partners
- Full team members for frequent and ongoing collaboration

Collaborating with Visitors
To collaborate with Visitors you need to make your board public.
Visitors will be able to view, comment and edit depending on the access level you set and your plan type. Visitors don’t need to register with Miro and you can invite them to your board for free. Learn more about the Visitor role.
⚠️ Miro strives to keep public boards from being indexed by search engines like Google or Bing. However, anyone with the link can access these boards, and the link might be shared beyond your intended audience. Depending on your Miro plan, you can enhance security by setting a password for your public board.
- Go to your dashboard and hover over the board card
- Click the three dots in the top right corner
- Click Share
- Set the type of access as Anyone with the link
- Select Can view (editing and commenting are only available for Visitors on paid and Education plans)
-
Click Copy board link and share it directly with the user you'd like to invite

Collaborating with Guests
Collaborating with Guests offers an additional level of security for your board. Your boards remain viewable only to those who are invited to them, either as Guests or team members.
Guests are required to sign in to Miro. They'll have access to many features of your paid Miro plan, as well as continued access to any shared boards in their dashboard. Adding Guests is free and there's no limit to the number of Guests you can add.
Remember to enable Guests in your Team settings.
